Step one in filing a bankruptcy without a lawyer is to do is research either via the internet or going to your local bankruptcy court. Different states have different regulations and in order to get a successful discharge, these laws must be followed or your case will be dismissed

Instead of hiring a lawyer, you could file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy from legalzoom. com. This website provides you with the legal forms you need to file yourself without a lawyer for a flat-fee.

It is very difficult to file on your own. One mistake or paper not filed correctly will result in rejection or dismissal of your case. It can be done but many forms and filings need to be done in a certain order as well as contacting all creditors.
