How do you figure out body fat?

I need to know so I can start a weight loss plan.

I think you can get scales now that will show you your weight as well as your body fat percentage and how many pounds of you are fat.

The best way to estimate percentage of body fat is to get some fat calipers to estimate how much body fat you have on yourself. If you cannot find access to one, the next best thing to do is figure out your body mass index and estimate how much fat based on that.

There are several methods to finding out your body fat but the most accurate is using a Skinfold Calipers which takes measurements of certain points on the body; giving the amount of body fat. Using water tanks to displace water with your body is another way.

The best way to determine body fat is through underwater weighing. The Body Mass Index (weight divided by height) is not very reliable - it often labels elite athletes as overweight because muscle is heavier than fat. Your doctor is probably the best source of information about your body fat.
