You can erase everything on any kind of laptop by reformatting. If you bought your laptop new, it should have come with a disk for reformatting. If you bought it used, you can request a disk from IBM's website

The easiest way would be to reinstall your operating system. If you want to go that extra step you can buy a new hard drive and swap it out for your old one.

Nothing is ever completely erased. Formating and reinstalling software does not completely remove data already on the HDD. There are programs used for "erasing" data, but all they do is overwrite the data. You can do this yourself simply by recopying a very large file you don't care about until disk is full. Delete all the files, then run defragmentation.

Insert the Mac Os x CD then restart the system. Immediately after the start up sound press and hold the C key, when the installation screen appears choose installer Open Disk Utilities. Select the hard disk to erase. Click erase tab, select the volume format from the volume format pop-up menu, then click options. Select the checkbox for Zero all data click ok and then click erase.
