The mature plant will have several seperate plants that you can easily pull apart and divide. It will not damage the plant if a portion of the root breaks off.

The good news is that spider plants are extremly hardy plants and are hard to kill. In order to divide the plant you need to take it out of the pot, the roots will be long and intertwined so you may need to use a trowel to loosen them. Pull them apart and replant in seperate pots.

Cut the plant in halves, going vertically. You need to cut from the top of the plant to the base. Then you have to Replant to new spider plant.

Spider plants are very easy to divide. Just cut off one of the "baby" plants and replant. If your parent plant hasn't sprouted any baby plants, don't divide.
