How do you determine what constitutes historically accurate clothes?

I am a costumer for a theatre.

You will want to check out other websites in order to complete research for that specific time period. Make sure that there are not certain materials and items that did not exist during that time period.

There's not really any way to always get it spot on, but you can go by what the history books say and you shouldn't be too far off.

Make sure the color and stitching on the clothing looks authentic by using pictures as examples. no labels should be showing and bright colors are usually not historically accurate because they used more natural dyes back then.
