You need to decide what *kind* of garden you want to establish. Your choices are a Tea Garden (Rojiniwa), a Flat Garden (Hiraniwa) or a Hill & Pond Garden (Chisen-Kaiyu-skiki). Plants depend on the type of garden; Japanese Maples, (zone appropriate) Azaleas, Japanese Irises...your best bet is your local library.
