I have a dysfunctional family myself. This won't be easy, but you have to tell them why you need to keep your distance and that it isn't that you don't love them, but it is for your own well being. They won't understand, and you will be deemed the "bad guy," but you can't worry about it. Stay strong.

You need to refuse to answer phone calls. Use caller ID, and don't pick up that phone! Let a few sympathetic family members know you are very upset with other family, and see if they understand your feelings. Quietly drop all contact with family members as soon as possible. Don't feel bad doing this...they made you feel bad first

If you really, truly want to cut ties with your family, then you need to stand up for yourself and not LET yourself be sucked back in, over and over again. Put your foot down and tell your family that you don't appreciate their dynamic and you don't want to be associated with it any longer.

I would suggest changing your phone number and locks if any of them live near you, and perhaps changing your email as well.

You could send them a letter and let them know you don't want to be in contact anymore, then don't answer calls or emails if they keep trying.

You need to develop a new source of support, contacts, etc. Then end contact period. Change your phone number and block emails. Don't respond. They will stop trying eventually.

Your best bet is just to tell them straight out you don't want anything to do with them, and if they continue to contact you, get a restraining order.

Change your phone number and e-mail address. Do not open letters they send you. Make it clear you do not wish to talk to any of them and avoid all contact for a while. Your family will try to guilt you and it is easy to get sucked in but ultimately you have to fight off the guilt.
