How do you convert an HEI ignition to a standard ignition?

It's an older car so I'd like to work on it myself.

I would simply not recommend switching from an HEI (HIGH ENERGY IGNITION)to a standard gnition. The HEI system is just a more reliable system.

This question makes no sense and is vague about what a "standard ignition" is. An HEI ignition is actually an upgrade from a "standard" [points] ignition if that is what is meant. Chronologically, ignitions went from points to HEI to DIS (distributorless).

Well most people prefer to have an HEI distributor compared to the old points system. The don't require nearly as much maintenance and you don't have to keep resetting the gap. You can go online and find somebody who sells older style distributor and the necessary accessory to use it in your vehicle.

Basically the main difference between the two is the distributor and the coil. The old style has an external coil and a set of points. So to convert to the older style remove your internal coil and trigger then install a set of points and add an external coil. You may just need to buy another old style distributor instead.
