How do you convert a knitting pattern to use bulky yarn instead of worsted?

I'm making an afghan.

If the afghan size is unimportant, larger needles with heavier yarn; e.g. instead of a size 8 needle, try a 10 or 11. The resultant knit fabric will have much the same feel. Knitting a heavier yarn with the same smaller needles is possible, but will result in a tighter guage; a less supple and more dense afghan.

You will have to use a larger size needle to accomodate the bulky yarn. Knit a swatch to figure out your gauge and go from there

The only thing the bulky yarn will do is make it bigger just reduce a few stitches wide and a few rows long and it will be perfect.
