How do you compare qualities in effectiveness versus ineffectiveness of judges?

I will soon be voting for local judges and would like to be more prepared for my decision.

Good judges tend to interpret the law as written rather than creating it from the bench. Look for someone with a solid legal background and experience in the field. Often people running for judgeships once clerked for another judge. You can check their record by looking at their employer.

Look at their records, decisions made, and cases they represented as an attorney. Then ask yourself whether they will be a good and fair judge or are they just out for themselves. A good judge cares about the people he or she presides over.

The best thing to do in order to know the judges you will be voting for is to keep up with debates and listen to the news.

This is often a subjective opinion. Some individuals may feel an effective judge is one who strictly applies the law to every situation without room for interpretation. Others prefer that judges utilize more discretion and tailor the law to each individual situation.
