Well there are machine designed to do this for you. They use small pads and polishing compound to remove light scratches. However it can be done manually. Usually you can buff the surface with a clean soft cloth and some toothpaste. Working small areas and don't stay in one spot too long. Then clean with a damp cloth and dry.
