First find out what your gym offers. Look at the classes and equipment they have. Many gyms will give you a day pass or offer temporary membership. Use these to try them out before selecting one for long term use. Look for the quality of the instructor, the class sizes, and the time schedule. Choose one that fits your needs.

Don't go for a lot of flash, popular television spots showing people smiling while they are working out. Forget it! It's hard work getting into shape. What you want is a gym that will build a routine with you in mind according to your needs and pace.

Ask if you can sit in on a class or get a day pass to check everything out before you join; it's important that you can follow the trainer and be comfortable in the gym you pick so you will want to go.

Choose a facility that has a variety of cardiovascular and weight resistance machines. Look for gyms with group exercise classes.

I'd rather choose the gym which has a conducive environment. Of course it is not crowded and only few people will get inside to avoid disturbances. It must be clean and has a complete equipments.

Look in your are for a list of gyms. Call them and see if they have an aerobics program. Check to see which classes they offer. YMCA's usually have great aerobics programs and you can use the other great aspects of the gym.
