The first thing you have to do is get inside your car and drive west. Eventually, you will see a sign that says you are entering Contra Costa county. This is when you would remove the modulator valve and examine it thoroughly. If there are any red streaks on it, you know it's faulty.

First you have to open the hood. Then find the modulator valve cover. This will look different on a lot of vehicles. One you have found the valve cover, take it off and get a good look at the valve. it should so a pressure reading. If the reading is in a good range, it's working fine.

a mechanic can check a modulator valve in different ways. one way is checking to see if it has vaccum to it. sometimes a vaccum line can be cracked or leaking.this would cause it not to work. if the valve has vaccum coming to it, then it is possible that the valve is bad.
