How do you change brakes on a softail?

Remove the 2 bolts holding the caliper on. Pry open the caliper by inserting a screwdriver between the rotor and old pads. Remove caliper and replace old pads. Slide caliper back over rotor and reinstall screws to hold cailper in place. Operate brake lever to check brakes.

Well you just basically have to change the brakes by removing the old ones. There is a great book online that gives you detailed instructions on changing the bikes. It is available on E-how that is better for you because it gives you visualizations so go ahead and use that to guide you.

Invest in a factory service manual specific to the model and year of your Softail. Follow the service manual procedures and you shouldn't have any problems. Also, inspect the rest of the brake components,replace any failing parts and replace the brake fluid.

You have to unbolt the caliper, press in the piston with a clamp and an old pad. Then insert the new pads and reassemble the same way it came apart.
