Most repairs like this consist of 3 things: Acquiring the correct parts, having a schematic of your vehicle, and having a basic understanding of mechanics. I would call a mechanic.

Solenoid switches--Sometimes called relays, are usually found in the fuse box. They resemble large, black cubes. They're usually labelled on the lid of the fuse box. Buy the new solenoid, pull the old one out--it'll just pull out like an electrical wall plug--and push the new one in. It's that simple.

The solenoid switch is located on the starter. Since you cannot purchase the solenoid alone I would purchase the starter and place a new starter on the WIndstar.

You need to get the proper tools. Probably a screw driver is all you need. First ,you need to take the battery cables loose. Always do that first . Then take starter out and the switch is connected to that. Remove ,change, and do reverse of taking off.

Need just a screwdriver. Disconnect battery. When you take the starter out the switch is connected to it. Change and put everything back from how you first took it off.
