If you don't have a crab trap, we knew several people who were successful with a bit of inexpensive raw chicken or a piece of bacon on a string. The crab will grab it and not let go. Toss it off a pier and wait for a tug.

Ocean crabs can be caught using a baited net resting along the ocean floor. Pulling it up catches the crabs. They can also be captured using bait on a line without a hook and you draw the crab upwards as it hangs onto the bait (often a chicken neck).

You can make a homemade trap or you can purchase one for less than $20. Mackerel is recommended for bait-about two per trap will be fine. Drop into water.
