You have to be very careful to make sure the turtles get proper lighting, clean, filtered water, and a dry place to bask and get out of the water. Minimum tank size is 20 gallons. Plan to outgrow the tank. Food sticks and very small goldfish are great for food.

Turtles like to swim so set up your aquarium so there is at least 30% dry land(rock) so they can rest. Diet should be a mix of cooked meats and vegetables.Temperature of the aquarium should be 80 degrees during the day and 70 degrees at night.

Clean water, a spot to dry off now and then, sunlight and a good commercial turtle food are all you need to keep turtles healthy. However, smaller turtles are more likely to harbor Salmonella, so always wash your hands after handling them and don't clean their bowls in the kitchen.

Turtles have needs regardless of their size; A tank with fresh water, a rock to rest on, a heat lamp, and healthy food (fresh vegetables, and worms or cooked meat).

To properly care for your miniature pet turtle, make sure about one-third of its tank space is land, such as a large rock, for your turtle to walk around on. The remaining space should be water which is purified and regulated with a filtration system. Feed your turtle a healthy diet of cooked meat, leafy green and mealworms.
