How do you care for a newborn kitten?

My cat is going to have kittens soon, can you help prepare me to care for them?

Make sure your cat has a safe, clean hideaway to give birth and stay in with the kittens - a cardboard box on its side lined with newspaper and blankets is ideal. Let her do the washing and feeding, don't over-interfere. Get a vet to home-visit shortly after the birth.

generally, you won't have to do anything. Your cat will do it all. if you notice the kittens aren't feeding you can buy a bottle from your local vet clinic and some formula (also from vet) and bottle feed them. otherwise, at about 3-4 weeks start them on mushed up can kitten food. Have fun.

The most important thing overall is warmth and mom. Make a home someplace dark and warm where mom is comfortable.

It is likely she will hide somewhere in order to give birth, like in a closet. The mother will feed and clean the babies herself.
