A website called Xe can be used to work out how much you will get for your money in a range of foreign currencies.

If you go to exchange money in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where the currency is called the real (ray-AHL), and you give R$30, and you get $19.35 dollars in exchange, then your rate of exchange was 30 divided by 19.35 = 1.55 reais per dollar.
