A wedding gown will have buttons or hooks on the back of the dress just above the butt. The bottom of the train will have loops that go on those hooks or buttons; each button is put on the corresponding loop.

Sew a hook right in the gown under your bum and then sew a button in the train so that when you hook the two the train doesn't drag.

Sewing hooks onto the underside of the skirt back will create a bustle when the hooks are fastened. The hooks need to be sturdy and sewn tightly at the seam so that they do not bend or tear out of the fabric.

In order to make the train on a dress bustle up and stay out of the way for the reception, a tailor will often sew loops and buttons on the dress itself that meld with the rest of the pattern. Depending on how long the train is and how you want it to look will dictate where they're placed.

Ribbons are attached to the gown (or train) and then attached to buttons. There are several online articles with instructions, but it is best to involve a professional wedding tailor.

A seamstress can add tiny loops and buttons to the underside of a bridal gown to bustle it. All you have to do is fasten the buttons and the bustle will take care of itself!
