How do you break open a geode rock?

First consider not breaking the geode, exposing it to the air causes it to lose its color. otherwise, I would use a hammer and a chisel and hit it really hard. Make sure that you have a way to hold the geode in place or it will fly off when you strike it.

You can cut a geode rock in half by using a saw blade that is able to cut through rock. Hold the rock in place and cut right through it.
