You normally need to complete a Bachelors degree in Business with a major in Accounting. Then, you need to pass a Certified Public Accountant exam to become a C. P. A. You will need advanced math and business courses in college, so your high school preparation is very important to your success at getting into the program you seek.

Start with college. Begin taking courses related to accounting, most of it involves math, equations, you'll also have to take economic courses. After schooling, there is additional training, followed by a state wide examination (for licensing). Once you get your license, you can work independantly, or through a firm.

A 2 year Associates degree or a 4 year Bachelors degree in accounting is the best start. This will get you an accounting job off the bat, but to become a CPA requires a lot of hard tests, studying, and hundreds of dollars in fees and classes.
