You BBQ or barbecue by placing meat, often marinated before cooking, on a grill. Under the grill is either hot coals or a propane gas fueled flame. The heat rises up from its source and heats the grill, thus cooking the meat.

I like to use a propane tank grill. Like Hank Hill says on "King of the Hill," "taste the meat, not the charcoal! " You want to preheat the grill to your desired temperature. Have a water spray bottle so that you can control flare ups. The main thing is to hang around the grill so you can always check it.

There are many different types of barbecuing, but they generally all involve very low heat and a large amount of time. Dry or liquid rubs are applied to the meat, which is then put on a low heat fire, usually with either charcoal or wood as the fuel. Several hours later, you've got some fine BBQ.

It depends on whether you want to know how to grill or actually barbecue. When grilling you just use a grill and cook food outdoors. Barbecuing typically refers to cooking food outdoors over a low fire over several hours. Typically over hardwood and hardwood charcoal. Grilling can be done on gas or charcoal grills but serious cooks use hardwood charcoal.

BBQ is the process of suspending food over an open flame. You can use charcoal, wood or gas. It also involves rotating the food to the desired degree.
