Once you have opened a Word document, select the Home menu and move to the Paragraph section. Click the box next to paragraph and then click on the Line and Page Breaks tab. Look for the Widow/Orphan Control and make your selections.

Word can control single line orphans automatically. Place your cursor in the paragraph containing the orphaned text. Click on Format | Paragraph. Click on the 'Line and Page Breaks' tab. Make sure the Widow/Orphan control is enabled. Click on 'OK'. You may also skim to see if there are any sentences that can be reworded to make them shorter.

Go to the Format menu and choose Line and Page Breaks. There are then options for both widow and orphan control, as well as other line break controls.

Just put the inseration bar in the paragrah that has the widow or orphan text. Then, right click, select "Paragraph". Click "Line/Page Breaks" tab, then make sure that the "Widow/Orphan Control" checkbox is checked.

Never adjust the left and right margins of a page. It gives book a cheapness looking when the margins vary from page to page.If layout requires each page to be exactly the same length, try to edit your text to remove or add a few words to adjust the frame of the text view and container.

First put the insertion point in the paragraph that has the text you want to adjust. Then click display the Paragraph dialog box. From here, click to display the Line and Page Breaks tab. This window is where the options for Widows and Orphans are located. You can click to check or uncheck the options.

Orphans and windows are historically adjusted using the paragraph dialog box in Microsoft Word. In Word 2007, go to the Page Layout Ribbon, select the tiny square in the lower right hand corner of the Paragraph section, this will open the paragraph dialog box. Go to the Line and Page Break Tab. Make your adjustments

At the top of the window you will find the Help menu and open the help dialog and do a search for orphans and find what to do.
