It is always better to add sound after finishing presentation. Go to insert option in the menu bar and choose the option insert media or insert audio option then you can browse your hard disk to add the needed file.

Open powerpoint slide with blank or any of your choice. Then goto insert and chose 'sound' media clip from that chose 'sound from file option' for a suitable sound track selection for your slide. This is for Microsoft powerpoint 2007, might change for other version.

In order to add music to a powerpoint presentation using Microsoft Office 2007, you need to click the insert tab at the top of your screen. You then need to click sound and then sound from file which lets you use music that you have saved previously on your computer.

From the main menu Insert > Movies and Sounds > Sound from file. Select your file and to have it played during the whole presentation: Slide Show > Custom Animation - Right Click on Media and select Effect Options. Choose "Start Playing from the beginning" and "Stop playing" after the number of total slides of your presentation.
