Walmart and Target differ in their marketing by who they market to. Walmart tends to market to the lower class while Target hits a more middle to upper class. Targets marketing tends to be a little more on the trendy side. Walmart has always had its foot in the door with the lowest prices.

Judging purely by their website homepages and company slogans, Target seems to target its market based on their price offering, whereas Walmart targets its market based on the value for money it can offer.

Walmart targets lower income individuals and offers a bare minimum shopping experience, whereas Target goes after more upper middle class families and tries to market itself as a "higher class" or "luxury" shopping experience. You can tell simply by watching television commercials for each store - Walmart goes after it from the family aspect whereas Target tries to be modern.

Yes, Walmart and Target differ in their marketing. Target has a much more positive feeling throughout all of society. Target gets major designers to create cheaper clothing lines for their store so they focus on quality as well as pricing. Walmart just markets itself as having very cheap prices, not necessarily the quality goods.
