The phone converts your voice to a digital signal, sent through the landline, to the receiving phone where it is decoded to sound.

A typical landline system consists of copper wiring, optic fibers, digital switches, and digital concentrators. Pieced together that way, the network that the landline phone is connected to makes it able for someone to place a call to an individually assigned phone number. Dialing is the same with any normal cellular phone.

Landline phone calls work by transforming your voice into a signal, sending that signal through the landline, and then decoding the signal back into audio on the other end.
