Double points are used for circular knitting. You have to use two pairs, with three of them holding the work in a triangular arrangement. Knit off onto the fourth needle.

These are used mainly for seamless knitted garments such as socks and mittens. You cast an even number of stitches on three double pointed needles, bring the ends of the two free needles together and begin to knit in the round with a fourth needle. You will always be working on the same (right side) of the garment.

First you cast on the total number of stitches required onto one needle. Then you separate the total count & place 1/3 of the stitches on 3 needles. Then use the 4th needle to make a circle between needles one & three. Knit (or purl) all the stitches on needle one; then use the empty needle to knit needle two.

Double point needles are used for socks and the like where you knit in a circle instead of back and forth. They are like circular knitting needles in function.

Double point needles are used in knitting when you want to make a continuous circle with out a break. You just keep knitting around from needle to needle.

Double point needles work exactly the same as single point needles but instead of turning the work over when you run out of stitches on the right hand needle, you move the empty needle from your right hand to your left and continue knitting around in a circle.

You need four to five needles. Cast all of your stitches onto one needle. Distribute them evenly onto three or four needles. Ensure stitches are not twisted. To join, slip last stitch from left needle onto right needle. Pass first stitch on right needle to left needle. Tighten as needed and knit with the remaining needle.

DPN's are used to make socks and other small, circular pieces of knitting. They usually come in sets of 4 or 5. You use one needle as the working needle while the others hold the divided stitches evenly.
