It depends on the type of bulb. Most can be dug up during fall when the plant is dormant and moved to the new location. Other plants do better if transplanted during the months they are in bloom. It is important to know which method will work best for the plant in question.

To transplant bulbs, you need to wait until the plant has stopped blooming and its leaves have died back. At this point, the bulb will have enough stored energy and will be healthy enough to be moved. Dig the bulb out of the ground, careful not to damage the roots, and place it in a new hole.

Dig a hole at least 6" deep and allow 4" width space for each bulb. Carefully remove dirt and bulbs from plant, digging 4" or so away from plant. Carefully remove bulbs and continue digging further from plants till you find all of them. Repeat for each plant. Place rounded end in new spot, cover with soil, and water lightly.

Transplantation of bulbs is very easy, just dig around the location of the bulb and gather the soil with the bulb still inside. Now the bulb is ready for transplanting.

Wait till early fall when ground is cooling off but still is warm enoguh for bulbs to spur roots. Place bulb in a small bag or container and burry it.
