How do I style a curly afro?

My child has extremely curly hair, as she is biracial and I have never styled her type of hair before I am having a difficult time styling her hair.

First of all, don't be afraid! Hair is hair, it just varies in density and texture. For an afro, try a product to tame and style it, but that won't flatten it completely. For an even easier time, try having her hair braided. If you apply product to it it'll keep it looking nice and managed.

I have the same type of hair and I speak from experience when I say, never thin it out. It causes many more problems than it solves. The best option is to just use a curling product after brushing well and let it do its own thing.

For more manageable hair on your daughter, start by shampooing and using and anti frizz conditioner. Then once washed and conditioned, use a detangler and comb your daughters hair. You can also use anti frizz serum if you'd like. Her hair is now easy to deal with so style away!

Use a gentle relaxer on her hair. Be sure to condition it a lot and you shouldn't have any problems straightening it or keeping it cute and curly!

Don't ruin your childs hair by relaxing it. There is no such thing as a gentle relaxer. Over time it thins the hair! She doesn't need straight hair to be cute.  add a comment
