On a Ford Explorer the mass air flow sensor is located on the large air intake tube just before the air filter. Unclip the electrical wires from it. Now it has 4 screws holding it dowwn, they are whats called star, or torx screws. You can get a set anywhere.

The sensor should be simply to replace. Simply unbolt it from the intake tube and unhook the connector from it. The just bolt on the new one and plug in the connector. You may want to disconnect the before you start to be safe.
