You will need to enter the code to disable the Securikey prior to removing the battery. Once the battery is removed from the vehicle replace it with the new battery. Once the new battery is installed the alarm will begin to sound. You will need to enter the code again and it will return to operating condition.

You can get small 9-volt battery saves that connect to your car's cigarette lighter that enable you to change the battery without causing any errors to your car's security or radio system. I would double check this would work with a mechanic first just in case though, to avoid any potential problems.

If you have securikey in your car it can be difficult to change a battery by yourself, if the alarm goes off you should take the negative wire for about 20 minutes and then reconnect it and that should fix the alarm problem, if this does not work it would be good to go to an authorized mechanic.

Depending on vehicle manufacturer, the mere precense of a security-laden key should not affect the replacement procedure for a battery. The security elements are stored within the vehicles ROM memory

The easiest way to do this is to buy an special 12v battery powered adaptor for your cigarette lighter outlet. This device will keep 12v on your system will the car battery is disconnected to avoid accidentally violating the security system. Make sure when you change the battery to be careful not to allow the cables to short out.

Replace the battery the same as any other car. When your try to start it again the immobilizer will kick in and your alarm will go off. Either by turning on the key and pressing on the alarm button inside or buy hitting the button on your key fob.

You will need to use a memory saver prior to disconnecting your cars battery. You can purchase something in an automotive parts store that requires a 9v battery with the adapter that plugs into your cigarette lighter to save your cars memory.

1) It's less likely that one will overcharge since the vehicle is actually using more than the normal amount of current. 2) the owner can judge for himself how much effort he should put into finding the high draw or other problem versus how much he's willing to pay for replacement batteries.
