Remove the bolts holding the seat on then open the seat and remove the pins that are held by cotter pins.

Seat is clipped on. Gently pick up along the edges being careful not to break any clips. Takes time and patience but basically snaps off.

the 1985 v 65 magna all you have to do is turn the helmet lock key to open and lift the seat off, it goes back on the same way then lock the helmet lock to hold the seat.

if you look on theleft hand side of the bike by the end of the seat is a key hole this is the helmet lock, use you ignition key and open the helmet lock. after the lock falls down you will see a small lever inside, pull the lever towards you and the seat lifts off.

Remove the bolts holding the seat strap on. They're also the seat mount bolts. If it has cotter pins, open the seat and remove 2 cotter pins.

On most you can remove the side panels and reveal bolts that you remove. Some come with a keyswitch or a little lever under the back of the seat.
