Question by  Sky91 (25)

How do I recharge and add freon to my mini fridge?

Answer by  Hasan39 (232)

Freon is a very dangerous gas environmentally and can be very harmful for the humans as well as animals. You can buy the cans from online websites and can do it yourself but it's a dangerous process.

Due to freon being a controlled substance, you will need to get a repairman who has a licence to use freon. Note that most mini-fridges are designed to be replaced, and that a reload of freon may not be possible. Check the manual, or the website of the manufacture before you waste a call to a repairman.

A call to a repairman for info is not wasted. It might even be the best course of action.  add a comment

The best way to do this is have a specialist do this. Freon can be harmful to humans and animals and should only be handled by professionals.

Freon is an environmentally damaging gas and substitutes are available. Usually this is done by taking your mini fridge into an appliance repair shop due to the risky nature of many types of coolant used for fridges. Also, if your freon has left your closed system, it should be inspected to find out why and repair any leaks.

I believe today Freon is not an easily available substance. Yes, department stores sells cans of a Freon-like mix but sometimes this can be dangerous or not have the desired effect you are looking for. This for the better part of valor I would recommend you take this to a professional.

You can buy the cans at walmart or Home Depot but freon is extremely dangerous. Even the newer stuff they use. I would recommend calling a HVAC specialist to see if they will do it for you.

The best way to do this is to ask a professional because I really don't think that you can't buy that you have to call a professional to have them installed and put in. This would be a huge help if they just sold it at a store or market place.

These mini fridges are easy to work on, thanks to their tiny design. Flip the fridge over and unscrew the plate labeled "F." Make sure you're wearing thick gloves.

I personally have never added freon to a fridge unit. I have had it added to my air conditioner. You may want one that you don't have to change.

Funny how no one ever answered the question. Not everyone likes to be ripped off by a tech. I have seen many 'tech" or pro's release gas into the air to spare,e

Nobody is answering the original question. It's very easy to do with cars. I imagine with some decent shop skills it's also possible to repair a mini fridge. Yes, it's dangerous to mix R-12 and R-134a, but if the fridge originally had R-123a, wouldn't it be reasonably safe?
