Acorns should be planted in the fall, shortly after harvesting. Use a pot with general purpose soil and sow an inch deep. The pot should be kept in a cold area until spring, with a piece of hardware cloth over the top to discourage rodents. Most acorns will not germinate without a prolonged cold period, which is called 'stratification'

Just plant the acorn under a couple inches of soil and water. Nature will take its course. However, be aware that a tiny acorn grows into a huge tree.

Growing an english oak from an acorn requires a lot of patience. After picking the acorn you'll need to let it sit for one or two seasons. Then you plant it in a deep container and wit luck it wil sprout by next spring.
