Remove the linens from the bed and check the seams of the mattress for bed bug waste that will appear as dark colored dots along the seam. Also look for live bed bugs - they look like apple seeds. You can also check behind the headboard and along the seams of the box spring as well.

Pull back the pillows, comforters, and sheets one by one to see if you can see any bed bugs. They will be small and black.
