If your baby is biting the nipple, it is time to start consider finishing with breastfeeding. Other signs could be as simple as you are tired of breastfeeding. There is no law saying how long breastfeeding has to go on. There are no studies indicating that breastfeeding for more than a year is any worse than breastfeeding for 12 months.

There is no real right time. It will be time to finish breastfeeding when you and your child feel like it is okay to finish. I would reccommend stopping when the child is 1 year old. At this time, he/she will be eating table foods and can handle drinking cow's milk.

You are finished when your baby stops nursing. They should look sleepy to you and have almost a groggy face. Some people call it being drunk off the breast since they almost look drunk. Also your breast should feel less full when you press on it. If the baby is not done, you can switch to the other side.

Deciding when to stop breastfeeding is a personal decision. You should take cues from your child and from your body. Most doctors suggest that you breastfeed till your baby is at least six months old, however some parents are choosing to breastfeed till their babies are two years old. Follow the cues of your baby and body.
