The first step is to put on waders and get out there and rake and dig them up. With a bad infestation, expect to repeat this step many times. If you can not kill them all, you may have to use a specially made chemical for the purpose.

You have to buy treatment for the pond and when you put it in the lily pads will die but you cannot kill them by just pulling them out.

The cheap way is to use Glyphosate which is most often used in weed killers (Aquamaster brand). The expensive way is to use Herbicide that contains Imazapyr, isopropylamine salt (Habitat brand). You will want to follow directions on the bottles because both of these solutions are toxic and may kill other pond life.

Use a product containing glyphosate which works, such as Shore-Klear and Aquastar. It would work even best if you mixed them with 'Cygnet Plus'and applied them directly to the plants.

Start by raking them out. Then you can apply an aquatic weed killer containing glyphosate to a small area. Repeat the process, as necessary. Young grass carp can be useful.
