First, clean the inside thoroughly with bleach solution to kill as much bacteria as possible. When putting it into storage, leave the door ajar to let moisture out (duct tape something to the door frame to prevent it from shutting - also prevents kids/animals from getting stuck and suffocating). Pop an open box of baking powder in to absorb odors.

When you are ready to place your refridgerator into storage you will need to make sure to remove all food products. Next wipe down and clean the inside with a mild chlorine mixture. Purchase two boxes of baking soda one for the refridgerator & one for freezer, open them, and place them inside. This will keep the refridgerator fresh.

If at all possible, it's really best to leave the door open just a bit. If this isn't possible, put a half inch of baking soda on a cookie sheet or cardboard flat, one for each shelf. Alternatively, you could use kitty litter. Both will absorb odors.

The most important thing to do with a refrigirator before you put it in storage is to empty it completely. You should also clean it thoroughly. Bleach water is a good cleaning agent to use when you wipe down the inside of the unit. You should also leave an open box of baking soda inside the unit to absorb odors.

You need to meticulously clean it with bleach, and make sure that it is completely dry inside. You should also get some drying agents (many storage places sell these; they look like little crystals) and put them on the inside. Lastly, make sure that the door has a good seal.
