First Know the Electrical properties of the generator like its ampere , voltage ranges. Then disconnect the ac and install the sub panel generator when it matches with the existing system.

First determine the max amperage produced by the generator. Then find the approriate voltage regulator that has a rating within the generator's amperage. The regulator also needs to match the voltage and phase of the exsiting system, i. e. 120/240v or 208v. Size the conductors according to the system current, 12ga for 20a, 10ga for 30a, ect. Install AC disconnect.

You need to find out the amperage, then you need to find the approriate voltage regulator. The regulator needs to match the voltage and phase of the existing. When the match is made you need to disconnect the ac and install the generator to the ac.Needs to be excessable but out of the weather.
