I think they kind of look like a mutant clover in that they have about 5 or 6 rounded off leaves popping out. I think there are usually 3 bigger leaves to start and then the smaller leaves come a little later.

At first I observe its colour combination and its shape and what is it height. Then I smelt it. If it has smell then I easily identified this flower. After that I will read the character about this plant and flower and also i will learn about its season means when this plant grows and where this plant grows.

I think your best bet is to get a book at your library or view seedlings at your garden center. You will have a clearer authentic idea of what to look for and not confuse it with weeds or other plants. A foolproof method is to preplant in identified peat pots and transplant pot and all, identify with markers.

Will take 7 to 21 days to sprout. Cover the trays with plastic wrap and check daily germination. Remove plastic after first sprout. Make young plants 4 inches from sunlight.

The way to identify a petunia sprout is to look for a tiny wavy green sprout growing from where you planted your seeds. Petunia seeds will begin to 7 to 21 days after you plant them.
