At first there is material stamp - it shows in which Millesimal fineness jewellery has been made (for Silver its 925, 830 etc. for Gold 585, 750). Than there is a stamp of the country (different in every country) and there is a stamp of a Goldsmith. If the Jewellery were made by hand than it will have goldsmiths stamp.

Depending on the kind of jewelry that you're talking about, one of the most common places to find a stamp is on the clasp of a necklace or bracelet. Once you find the quality mark, just Google it and you can usually find a lot of information on it.

Jewelry stamps can be identified through research via the internet or various books and periodicals. They can also be identified through a certified jeweler, the people at the mall will have no idea what you are talking about. A certified jeweler is your best chance considering they are trained and have better knowledge as to what they are looking at.

The only way you can identify jewelry stamps is to look for the symbols on the jewelry and you must have knowledge of what these symbols mean in order to know what they are.

I have an old pair of cuff links that could possibly be gold but I cannot identify any markings on them except for a shamrock stamp. Can you tell me what it stands for?
