AC Units greatly differ by brand. Since there are some many types of brands I would insist that you refer to your particular AC User Manual. They are quite useful.
Residential HVAC has very few operating parts. If youre comfortable doing so, shop online and replace each part until problem is solved. Should save thousands of dollars.
