First, they are omnivores. As a young turtle they eat a carnivorous diet and then in their adult years they develop a more plant based diet than meat but never turn from meat. They also have that classic yellow and green pattern on the back of their shells, crawl slower than most turtles and bask in the sun on occasion.

You can check out a book from your local library or find an online site that has pictures and descriptions of the different turtles found in Florida. You will look for the different colors and patterns found on the turtle you wish to identify.
