How do I go about testing the inertia switch in an Explorer?

The inertia switch is located under the dash on the passenger side of the the vehicle. It is down near the kick panel. Press the switch.

Using a paper clip, place in wiring harness from one wire to the other. Turn key and listen for fuel pump. If it comes on,switch is getting a signal.

Get the standard amount of voltage which this switch passes. Then test it yourself and compare it with the numbers you have now. There is your answer.

Basically you would measure the voltage going through it and compare it to what it should be. Trying resetting it by pushing the button it shows a broken circuit.

On the fuel system, you can unplug the switch and make a jumper wire - testing in both "jumped" and "open". Don't mess with the air bag switches! Just unplugging one can activate the system.

Newer model explorers have the inertia switch located at the drivers side kick panel. Older model (box) have it on the passenger side panel. Press the button and try to start the truck.
