Start giving more of solids to the baby. As the baby feeds on solids, it may loose interest over the breast milk. Never encourage the baby if it throws tantrums to continue breastfeeding. Otherwise it would become too difficult to wean the baby. Try to introduce bottles or sippy cups to drink milk.

First stop the feeding in the middle of the day and replace it with food, a bottle or a sippy cup, depending on the baby's age. If the baby seems happy missing this feeding, nurse at the next feeding and then eliminate the next scheduled feeding. Continue eliminating a feeding every few days, ending the bedtime one last.

The best thing to do is to slowly ween yourself and your baby. Drop one feeding a day, once your body has adjusted drop another and so on. It may take two to three weeks to do it this way but it will be less painful.
