Watermelons need to be started from seeds indoors, in peat pots. They will require a lot of sun. When they're ready, they should be transplated to a large pot (12inch), one plant per pot. Watermelon vines will require a lot of support. The soil should be kept moist.

Select a midget variety that will grow less than 10lbs on the vine, like Sugar Baby or Moonbeam. You can do this using a STRONG trellis, which can be quite attractive too. You will want a container that will hold about 10 gallons of soil, with a reservoir that will take about a gallon of water underneath.

After you put the soil in the pot I would plant the seed. Put it outside and water it every few days, then when large enough, plant in the ground.

Place a pot in full sun. Watermelon will needs rich manure compost. We can use 12 inch pot to start with. If vines of plant is large transfer to 24inch.

If you are wanting to grow watermelons in a pot the pot has to be the right size. You must have to pot be at least one foot in length.
