How do I go about finding the map sensor on a 1990 Pontiac Sunbird?

The MAP sensor is located to the side of the large round housing right on top of the engine, the one held in place by the two wing nuts. It is a small black plastic square with a three wire connector and a small vacuum hose coming out of it.

This device measures air flow going to the throttle body so it is located either in the air filter assembly or in the large hose that brings the filtered air to the throttle body. It will have several wires attached to it with a rectangular plug assembly that slips into the hose or filter assembly.

i don't think that car has a map sensor , it;s too old but if you know that is has ..

It should be under the hood, attached to the firewall. Refer to a picture of the part or the new part itself to help identify the old one.
