If you have the thick variety of carpet it is better to go for dry claning because if it remains wet it is going to give a bad odour. It is not possible to clean big carpets at home. If it is small you can clean it at home and dry it in the sunlight.

To clean a carpet after water seepage, you can use a steam cleaner and go over the carpet several times to pick up most of the water and prevent mold.
