Question by  scott63 (140)

How do I fix my car, which runs briefly then cuts out with a popping noise?

Sometimes my Lincoln LS does not even start.

I recommend finding a motorhead with a computer to hook up to help see what's wrong with it in better detail. It's hard to say, but you may have an issue with your spark plugs. Also check and see if you are leaking fuel. Start by replacing the spark plugs and go from there

There are a number of issues that could cause your no-start or no-run condition. Generally speaking, a car that starts and runs briefly is most likely experiencing a fuel or spark issue. Start by checking fuel pressure and see if it's within specs. If not, it's most likely the fuel filter or pump.

Well it sounds like you have a ignition problem. The popping noise is probably the unburnt fuel lighting off in the exhaust. Check the spark plugs and coils.

The first thing I would do is to check your spark plugs. If the are in good shape and clean check the gap and re-install. Otherwise gap and install a new set. Next go through and check all the plug wires and other ignition components for short and loose connections.
